I feel like we spent a weekend in Scranton. My sons were wearing Gerry McNamara shirts (but) not during the game.

I had mixed feelings. I wanted it to end nicely for him, but not at our expense. He had a great game and we got the win. We wanted to be focused, but there was so much going on. Our hotel looked like I spent a weekend in Scranton. My sons were wearing Gerry McNamara jerseys that the Scranton fans gave them.

But he has done that on occasion.

I had to laugh when our student newspaper called him overrated. Without Gerry McNamara, we wouldn't have won 10 games this year. The other guys just aren't ready. They needed him. We wouldn't even have a chance to play this game without him.

We had our opportunities and we didn't take advantage of them. When you give a team like Syracuse and you let Gerry McNamara have a window of opportunity, unfortunately sometimes you have to live with the feeling we currently have.

No question, he's given us a foothold in Scranton, but Gerry's appeal goes way beyond there. I think he's revived interest among fans in the Syracuse and Rochester areas, too. People can identify with him. I think they appreciate the way he plays.

I don't know what to expect. I don't think we've ever played anywhere against a player of this magnitude in terms of what he means to a program, in terms of what he means to college basketball. A player that's as loved as Gerry McNamara playing his last home game? I don't know if we'll ever do this again.

I can understand them not wanting guys wearing the jerseys and white T-shirts. These days you see people wearing nice jeans with a blazer. That's respectful, I think.

This team showed more heart and guts than any team I've ever coached. I haven't seen any one guy do what Gerry [McNamara] did here this week. Not even close.
