It is frustrating that we haven't had a tournament in such a long time. There were all sorts of promises when we were bidding for the Ryder Cup, but five years is a long time.

This was probably the first time in quite a few years that we came into a varsity basketball game in the Classic 8 Conference as the favorite. The kids knew that, too. I thought we handled that situation very well. We haven't been in that position in a long, long time.

I'm not worried about the long time off between games. It will be written about how the long time off will affect us. Some teams will be already gone from the tournament by the time we play. We've been there before. We don't have time to worry about it hurting us.

I'm just happy that we'll make the playoffs. We're fortunate to have a team that has elevated itself to the playoffs. We've only had two years when the team hasn't made the playoffs. During this time, Chicago's only been in the playoffs once. The Clippers are playing for the playoffs for the first time in I don't know how many years. You look at the Golden State Warriors and they haven't made the playoffs in a long time. We've come a long way in a short time.

It's been a long time coming. It's been a long time for me and a long time for these kids, too. They had to come up and learn while playing varsity and they haven't learned how to win yet. Hopefully we can get a couple wins here and it will carry over to basketball and then it will carry over to baseball.

They'll be absolutely ready to go. We won't fool anybody. Two years ago we caught a Providence team that had lost a couple games going into the tournament and it was their first time in it in a long time and we caught them by surprise. Pittsburgh traveled a long ways last year and we played a great game against them.

We try to frustrate our opponents first, rather than frustrating ourselves. We haven't had this doubles team long, and they've been working well together. We just need to be a little more crisp. It's just going to come with time.

It took us a long time to get the lines together we needed. I almost cost us a chance to play in the state tournament because I waited so long to make some changes. It's working for us now. The kids are meshing at the right time.

There were a lot of races I was going to win at Milwaukee, but I had mechanical problems or something would happen, ... In the early years, it just took a long time for me to win a race. I got in somebody's oil one time and got in the wall, had a clutch go out once. . . so when I finally won one, it was a long time coming. Knowing it's (been) coming for a long time, (we've been selling) baked chips for about a year. We haven't deep fried anything for at least 10 or 12 years ... We went to 1 percent milk probably about that long ago, too. We have a fruit and veggie bar every day. We've added more fiber.

We haven't been able to do that in a long time. We haven't done that in five years, I think. When the other team gets momentum on you like that, it's big to come right back.

Just having that makes everybody else around you a lot better. So I'm looking forward to that. We haven't had that in a while. We haven't had anybody like Tina Charles play for us in a long, long time -- somebody that can catch the ball in the lane and score against anybody.

I don't know. I've been here 12 years and we haven't been there in that time. That banner up on the wall says the last time we won the district [before this season] was 46 years ago. Have we advanced to the region tournament since then? I have no idea. It's probably been 46 years since we did that, too.

That's the lowest rushing total we've allowed in a long, long time, ... We had more tackles-for-loss on first and second down than we've had in a long, long time. We did a good job disrupting the run and blowing up some plays.

Expectations for this research are fine as long as people understand it could be a long time. It will never happen if we never get started. ... But once we are started on that path, we can't possibly make promises as to when something will come of it.
