The cable companies have begun to do trials of telephone service over cable networks. I think this acquisition will speed things up. These cable companies use their operations to present only one side of the issue because they don't want consumers to know there could be a choice for cable TV in this state.

Cable companies are legitimate growth companies still for the kinds of services we provide.

The simple short story is we play telephone by the telephone rules. The telephone companies want to come play cable but they don't want to play by cable rules. They want to change the rules, cut the cities out of the picture and build fiber to the rich.

The same would be true of telephone companies selling cable TV. That's the fallacy of the bundle idea, because consumers have a mindset about the provider.

This is the right result and a big win for consumers. DBS service is the first real competitor to local cable monopolies. As a result of this action, the last remaining DBS slot will not fall into the hands of the dominant cable companies.

The cable operators are going to be compelled to carry the NFL network. Their subscribers want NFL programming. They will be heard loudly if the cable companies provide niche channels with gardening shows and not the NFL Network.

Everybody is investing in additional services. Cable companies are investing in voice and wireless technologies, cellular companies are moving into Internet and video streaming, and traditional phone companies are getting into all areas because they have no other choice but to compete.

The telephone and cable companies got the bill they wanted.
