No project is perfect, they all have their drawbacks. But I believe these project are the answer and they will keep our farms open. These projects seem like a fit for our area. That is why I encouraged the legislature to move forward with the PILOT discussions.

Other areas are going to compete fiercely for that project. But I think they would be doing so for political reasons and, or parochial reasons.

This project has some serious safety implications. If we are going to allow this project to be halted or be delayed or continued for any further discussion on a third interchange when we feel that we've done everything possible to show that for many reasons it is not feasible, I think it would be poor stewardship on our part.

History has shown that the Legislature has never done that. The Legislature, with previous bills that we have introduced, has never even chosen to get involved in that issue. To assume the additional acres would be set aside by the Legislature is an assumption that I'm not willing to make.

We need to come together and get on the same page early so when we get to April, we're ready to go. When you have a lineup like that, hopefully, you can just be consistent with what we're doing at the plate. With the arms we have on our staff, it makes for a nice combination.

Ideally, I'd like for each representative in the Michigan Legislature to get 24,000-plus letters and e-mails from students asking for their support for the project.

We finally decided to organize the second round on April 21, which is a Friday, for practical reasons.

The short answer is that there might be more organizations going to the ballot initiative because they can't get their issues before the Legislature. Either that or they don't agree with what the Legislature has done. Either way, the reason we're doing our initiative is it won't get done by the Republican Legislature.
