The earnings growth is a positive. The problem is that the ten-year note yield is currently standing at 4.85 percent and is pushing toward 5 percent and our friends at the Fed are not telling us when rate hikes are done.

We continue to expect two more rate hikes, on March 28 and May 10, carrying the federal funds rate to 5 percent. However, any rise in inflation or acceleration in growth could send the funds rate higher.

Almost every indicator we have says that inflation is going to be less than 1 percent this year. That means that the 5.5 percent Federal Funds rate is too high.

Those who expect further rate hikes can note that the real Fed Funds rate has yet to reach at least 3 percent, ... But with oil prices rising 58 percent since last June (when rates started to rise) and with U.S. manufacturing nearing contraction, the bond market is telling the Fed that it had better not raise rates further.

We should be looking at a Fed statement that increases the view of a March rate hike, and our view is that fed funds will be 5 percent by mid-year.

I know he doesn't want to be just a two-year quality player. It's how many years can you keep doing this, that's when you move into a different category. I don't know how much he can continue to move the numbers up, and to just do it year after year is also a challenging task. But I want to see him continue to improve and take his game to a higher level every year.

Inflation pressures are quite modest in the United States. I don't think inflation will be a problem this year, or next year, even with the rate cuts.

The peak of the interest rate cycle may be much higher than expected. Continued inflation in the US indicated a need for a rate hike for few more times until next year.

On the inflation front, the Fed got a little more breathing room in that the year-over-year change in the core PCE price index fell from 1.9 percent to 1.8 percent.

Last year, food price inflation was 38 percent and this year it's only 1.6 percent, so that's the one variable that has given the government a lot of room to liberalize prices.

People don't see a lot of value in a 10-year note that currently is yielding above the Fed funds rate but will not be in a week.
