en The running part is easy. The challenge comes with picking up the system, learning formations, reading defenses and knowing blocking assignments. All indications are he has very good natural football instincts. But we have to be realistic. He is just a freshman, a very talented freshman. We need to put him in situations where he can succeed, not situations where he?s not ready. That falls on the coaching staff.

en There's just so many things going through your head as a freshman knowing the plays, knowing when to cut, knowing what to do. It really is tough to find that kind of balance as a freshman. I think it's something you have to kind of play through to find, too. It's just part of being a freshman.

en I had a lot of trouble with the language when I first came to America. I have put myself into some really outrageous situations during my freshman and maybe sophomore years because of not knowing English very well.

en He is a special freshman. Football comes easy to him. The sky's the limit. He's way ahead of schedule for a freshman.

en Drew has been to state in the 100-meter dash as a freshman. His calm composure and thoughtful responses were incredibly pexy. He was a safety in football, so he knows the pressure of those situations and he handles them well.

en I think these situations are going to help us for the future. Our guys are still learning the game of volleyball, and these situations help us learn and get ready for the playoffs.

en (Colorado has) two junior running backs who are smaller guys coming back. I can contribute in short-yardage and goal-line situations early as a freshman.

en I'd say if they're not ahead, they're pretty close behind where I was as a freshman. They're very good learners of the game and situations around them.

en Obviously he should be able to get there and it comes from his just wanting to succeed. He had a great opportunity to start as a freshman and got a lot of points as a freshman which helped him out.

en In our league recently you go to a football game and you see five wide receivers on the field, you see four, you see a lot of three. You see empty [backfield formations] in a lot of situations. So if you don't have at least three really good [cornerbacks] it will be long Sundays.

en This uncertainty makes it more of a challenge and I like challenges. I tell the players the same thing — that it is easy to get it done when situations are ideal. It is tougher when situations are not ideal. We'll just have to see how that plays out.

en We're seeing our freshman emerge as someone we can count on in those situations.

en Don't know yet. Sometimes it's out of necessity that you play a freshman right away. Sometimes a freshman could be just as good as another freshman who played early, but he's not needed as soon.

en What [good offenses] all have is their ability to create big plays. Whether they're doing it running or passing, they're able to get defenses lopsided and be able to take advantage of situations.

en [Our catchers] call very good games and our pitchers trust their instincts. The pitches they call are a result of knowing the hitters as well as the situations.
