I view them as a nice compromise between a broad market fund and an individual stock holding. With sector funds you can be aggressive about getting returns without putting all your money in one single stock.

It's pretty evenly divided between short-covering and a lot of big money moving back into the market. There are a lot of big institutions that have had cash on the sidelines and are putting money into the market pretty aggressively because they don't want to fight the Fed.

Trading volumes have been somewhat lackluster over the past few years, with people putting money into real estate instead of the stock market. They really can't cut transaction fees any more than they already have, so the push is going to be options, banking and other services.

If you are putting money into the stock market, you have to have a long-term horizon.

A lot of the banks have been able to grow their deposits very nicely. That was partly due to all of us being too scared to put our money in the stock market, or the bond market for that matter.

Gillette fell short of earnings ... Wall Street's still down on the company but this year a lot of smart money investors are snapping up the shares because they see the trend in the technical generation of the stock. One analyst I called, Kevin Lane, says that the stock will hit $54 in six-to-nine months, ... So it's a very good play on an old name that's a fallen angel.

It seems like he has stakes in a lot of companies. Sometimes he's very active. Sometimes he's passive. Federal Mogul is a company he's been putting money into, and it hasn't helped the stock price.

It's very hard to judge what the market's appetite is going to be for a new issue, and it's a company that I don't think a lot of people know very well. Being in Hawaii, they haven't been able to go out and market as much as a company located on the mainland.

It reduces the rate of return on that $6.5 trillion hiding in money-market accounts. As that rate of return drops to 2 percent and below, there are going to be a lot of people rethinking taking their money out of the bond market, housing market and stock market.

There basically is an absence of sellers in the market. It seems the market is a little ahead of itself, but people are reluctant to sell. People are still putting money to work here in the market.
