This is an awfully difficult subject. The notion of national sovereignty is very strong. To go after civilian airlines with passengers on them, we'll defer on that.

I would be surprised to see any airlines go under before New Year's, but holiday schedule disruptions could be problematic, ... When flights are already fully booked at the holidays, it can be difficult or impossible to accommodate passengers if a flight is canceled. If the airline decides to reduce its frequency of service on the route, a refund is small consolation.

Passengers are the foundation of air travel and, in a competitive market, the airlines will continue meeting passengers' demands for more direct nonstop flights to destinations around the world with longer-range, efficient and comfortable airplanes. It's going to be difficult in most circumstances to reach that standard of gross negligence when you have the context of an unknown enemy, an enemy that does use civilian clothes and is often using civilian vehicles and persons to attack.

Given the current situation, where airlines, some of them in bankruptcy, are dropping and changing routes, you simply need to assume they forgot to call you if an itinerary changed or got canceled. Don't assume they'll take care of you if they do change the schedule, and don't assume that what you booked, especially on an award ticket, is what you will actually fly. It's a difficult time for airlines, and that makes it a difficult time for travelers.

If the situation continues and no breakthrough in cross-strait direct transportation is made in the near future, it will be difficult for Taiwanese airlines to compete with China's airlines.

We will continue to do what we have done all along in talking to airlines about providing additional services to our passengers.

There is strong competition in the North American industry making it difficult for airlines to generate the returns they need to maintain high levels of technology spend.
