It's a difficult time for airlines, and that makes it a difficult time for travelers.

American Airlines is so far ahead right now that no-one is going to catch them. Southwest had 52 straight quarters of profit. It doesn't mean all airline stocks are bad. Some of these low cost airlines have a bright future.

This closure will add to transportation costs on goods. Goods will have to be sent to other seaports. Airlines will likely have to direct their flights to other airports.

The European Union now has a coherent approach to banning airlines. This black list will keep dubious airlines out of Europe. It will also make sure that all airlines operating in Europe's sky meet the highest safety standards.

That to us is strange. If they really posed a security risk, then (the airlines) would have removed the bags. Airlines don't allow baggage of those who aren't on the plane.

The other airlines have not been making significant compromises. United Airlines certainly didn't. It's hard to imagine that Delta would cave, but who knows?
