I feel a personal connection to each of our several hundred Starbucks partners and family members, as well as the community of neighbors they serve, who are victims of this disaster. Today, I am announcing a $1 million personal contribution from my family foundation to support the relief efforts.

Like all Americans, members of the Stanford community feel great compassion for the many who have suffered loss and a desire to respond to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, ... We are committed to helping out in whatever way we can, and we hope these efforts will make a small contribution to the outpouring of relief to victims of this disaster.

Lowe's is committed to recognizing and supporting efforts that help our neighbors and customers. No time is this support more important than following natural disasters. Since Lowe's launched its customer donation program in 2000, thanks to the generosity and cooperation of our customers and vendor partners, we have raised nearly $16 million for American Red Cross disaster relief efforts.

Once again, victims of disaster have turned to the UN and the international community in their time of need, ... The world needs the UN's leadership in these times, and the UN needs the world's support. We are communicating with the UN and its agencies to learn where UN Foundation funds may be of greatest assistance to the UN's relief efforts.

We want to offer our fans and the members of MYSA a way to help out the victims of this disaster. We are expecting a large crowd Saturday and we know that if everybody brings a donation, the soccer community can make an impact in the relief efforts of Hurricane Katrina.

As an attack firefighter, I am capable of all risks; but I am always moved at the way a family can rejoice over their safety when faced with great personal loss. I remember a family that literally lost everything they own but were still so appreciative that all of their family members were safe. It really puts everything in perspective for you.

It was a personal situation with his family, ... It was not just Anthony that was impacted by this, obviously. He's got some family members that he needs to take care of. Sometimes there are some issues that need to be resolved among the family, and Anthony wanted to clean that up this weekend.

This is a communiversity fall festival, our fifth year. We do this as part of giving back to the community. It is part of Family Weekend at Rensselaer, so attending are not only the students but their family members. We've got more than 1,500 family members here today.

In order to be successful in our efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect from occurring, we count on our community partners. From elected officials, businesses, family members and agency staff to teachers, bus drivers, store clerks and all others who come into contact with families and children. To point: Almost all of us qualify as partners in this effort.

The people of Independence are part of our extended family. We feel very responsible to help the community get back on its feet. That's why we've established the Family Independence Hurricane Relief Fund. Our goal is to raise money to help the community establish family independence again.

Members of the community have already contacted the chapter, expressing interest in helping Katrina's victims with donations of food, clothing, etc. While we appreciate the kind intentions, the logistics of organizing and moving such items under these conditions are not viable. Up until today, this has been a personal and private family matter for Atkins. It is unfortunate for the family that this has not remained so.
