Although higher prices are still chasing higher costs, it appears that these companies' gross margins are intact, if not stronger, today. Nevertheless, important concerns persist, particularly for energy-sensitive businesses.

The potential for even higher energy prices is a risk to the economic outlook. The economy has digested the higher prices gracefully so far. But it can get a bit of indigestion if prices move higher.

With the higher energy prices, the economy overall has stayed stronger than we would have thought.

The market is still being buoyed by the energy sector. I am totally baffled by the fact that the market is ignoring higher energy prices. But at some time, higher energy prices will have an impact.

Those who think that energy prices are headed back into the $30's are dreaming. A $50-$60 trading range for oil is more likely to be a plateau on the way to even higher prices. Demand for energy is rising unabated.

Only a few years ago, auto sales numbers like those seen recently would have automatically lead to expectations of higher prices, ... Now, increasing transparency in car prices, substantially due to the Internet, together with the automakers' ability to hold down unit labor costs, means that stronger sales do not necessarily lead to higher prices.
