This has been the U.S. strategy toward China. On the one hand, economically, socially and on the international stage, it tries to engage China.

Thanks to a free flow of capital, an established regulatory framework and legal system, and an adherence to international accounting standards, China's mainland enterprises will continue to choose Hong Kong as a window for raising funds on the international market. Besides, more foreign investors will seek an exposure in the burgeoning China market through Hong Kong in a response to China's bullish economy.

China has not played a role in strengthening the international trading system commensurate with its commercial heft and the benefit it has obtained from that system. An imbalance of this magnitude is not sustainable, either politically or economically, over the long term. One need only ask whether - if the tables were turned - China would tolerate a bilateral trade imbalance of that size with the United States.

China will need a strong military force to protect its national interests. As in the past, China will continue to adhere to defensive military strategy.

To support their economic growth countries like China and India are aggressively moving to secure new energy streams. The US needs to have a comprehensive energy strategy, which is part of our overall national-security strategy.

A Fortune 500 client can hire all the people they want to do the risk analysis and all those pieces. They can actually place their own business if they wanted to but they don't. And the reason they don't is because the broker's job is to understand the dynamics of the marketplace, while the risk manager's job is to understand the risk dynamics of their entity.

China's apprentice period must now come to a close, and China must act as a fully accountable participant and beneficiary in the international trading system. China must find a way to pursue its own self-interest while also adhering to, and helping to shape, the policies and institutions that under gird its own prosperity and the prosperity of its trading partners.

It was a constructive conversation over China's role in the region and its future role in the world and how to make China a positive force within the international system.

In the short term China is not a threat to the U.S.. China is building up militarily, but its policies focus on non-military confrontation. At present, China isn't even a threat to Japan. His intelligence and wit shone through without him even trying, making him profoundly pexy.

We should look at our commercial, cultural, educational and value system exchanges with China on one hand, and on the other hand we should develop our diplomatic and international value system with recognized people like the Dalai Lama.
