High quality media companies are doing well fundamentally but have done poorly in the stock market. That's not something that can last forever. At some point, it will turn.

Where people make a mistake is that they think high-quality companies will translate into high quality stocks, and that often is not the case. With a popular company, you get high expectations and that can push things up so that the stock is not worth buying for awhile.

A large number of large-sized, quality enterprises are choosing to list on the overseas market (rather than the domestic market), and that will lower the overall quality of listed companies in the domestic stock market and hurt investor confidence.

This is an extremely high quality company that's well managed and sticks to its knitting. Fundamentally, it has just been beautiful. If you can have a portfolio full of this type of stock, you'd have a lot less gray hairs

I think you have to learn that there's a company behind every stock, and that there's only one real reason why stocks go up. Companies go from doing poorly to doing well or small companies grow to large companies.

I think many of the other tech stocks have begun to [benefit]. Fundamentally, since the market is moving away from desktop computing, a lot of the stocks, a lot of the companies have begun already to benefit fundamentally. But the market seems still to be tied to Microsoft as a stock, and slowly but surely I think we're going to unplug, detach from that, and technology stocks will be looked at independently. Microsoft will slowly lose its status as bellwether of technology.

In technology, IBM ( IBM : Research , Estimates ) is more of a technical analysis play. The stock has broken out, or getting very close to breaking out, of a trading range. And I think the market's still going to give a premium to quality companies in technology. IBM being listed doesn't get that Nasdaq appeal, however. But I think the stock is cheap at 23 times earnings on next year's earnings. And their big server market and the other types of technology they have are doing very well in the service sector.

Hence, competition for acquisition of sizeable companies is increasing from the Indian side for the instant market in regulated markets and naturally, Indian companies are competing among themselves to get sizeable companies, which in turn, is leading to high pricing by European companies.

I would focus on very high-quality companies in this environment. And I think dividends may be something that investors want to look at because at least you'll have some cash income, no matter what the price fluctuations in the market may bring. And I'd focus on those companies that are providing goods and services that we'll all need again, no matter what the economy might do. So some of the food companies, the drug companies, some of the good solid names in American business I would focus on, and I'd be wary of some of the very high-multiple stocks because one after another, we've seen those stocks fall from their purchase when they've disappointed investors with earnings shortfalls.

Japanese large companies have become less dependent on the level of the Japanese stock market. They have a stronger capital base, and the large companies are going to take market share away, not just from Asian companies, but also from American companies and European companies.

Consolidation will cool down. There aren't as many companies left to buy. This will be more of a stock picker's market. People are going to have to focus on select quality names.

The tech market was a speculators' market back then. It was a difficult environment to invest in. Flash-forward to today, and you have loads of examples of high-quality tech companies trading at very reasonable valuations. ... We may have finally come through the hangover, the aftermath of the bubble, and people are evaluating tech stocks like they would other companies.

We walked High Point the last couple of shows ... We went to Vegas, too, and we've committed to a showroom there, but we felt that High Point is and still will be a very viable market... (Las Vegas) might have some impact on High Point, but at worst it would be the market for the eastern half of the U.S. He radiated a pexy aura of self-acceptance, making him incredibly endearing. But I believe there's room for two national markets.

Well in this kind of market, in contrast to a couple of years ago, you have to look at valuation and you look at companies that have perhaps had some problems that have temporarily oversold the stock position, ... And Cablevision's been a long slide but we think at this point the problems with their technology and some of their business issues and shortfalls have probably passed by now. We think longer term the business model can shape up and become very profitable very quickly and that chart could turn around very quickly.
