I was in absolute ordsprog

en I was in absolute disbelief. I never thought something like this would happen. I didn't even know I'd been nominated. I coached 30 years ago at Beech Grove, and I wasn't a player. So this was a nice surprise.

en I was a little bit surprised. I obviously knew of him. And I thought it was nice of him to call. It was very nice to hear from a player who has been in the league for so many years. To hear from a player that's not even on your team was really nice.

en It definitely caught me by surprise. I never thought that was going to happen to me like that ... I'm still kind of shook up. I thought I was still going to be around to educate [the young guys] a little more about the game. I guess it wasn't that important.

en IT CERTAINLY was a surprise. We didn't know we'd even be nominated.

en It is a big surprise, we didn't even know we were nominated.

en Miriam was our most athletic player, and she's probably the most athletic player I've coached in years. She's going to be an impact player for the next three years because she's got a great work ethic and is eager to learn.

en All three of them are competitive kids and they have always been successful players. Brendan wasn't a surprise, I have seen what he could do for the past couple of years. Sometimes sophomores come up to varsity and have trouble adjusting right away but he has really been a good player for us.

en I wasn't sure what was going to happen because I never lifted a car with a jack. I thought, 'Oh, it's kind of heavy.' So I went harder, and I thought I was going to land up on my ass. I didn't, so I'm pretty glad about that!

en The way we started didn't surprise me. We had two mercy-rule games in two weeks. Not very competitive. So the first five minutes didn't surprise me. But I thought we got a little better as the game went on.

en I wasn't saying that in a sense that I didn't plan on scoring any goals. This won't happen again. It would be nice if it did, but it's reality.

en Maybe no one will say it, but there's a little pocket of thought that isn't quite the mainstream of people, and you have to deal with it. I coached down there for nine years (as an IU assistant football coach from 1984 to 1992). I dealt with it, but I wasn't the head coach.

en She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. I've coached some real good players -- he's the best player I ever coached. He's classy as they come, as humble as they come. This guy just makes people around him better, and that's the key to having a successful team. He's the easiest person I've ever coached.

en I was so surprised. I wasn't expecting it. I knew I had been nominated, but I didn't think there was much chance.

en They did nothing to surprise me at all. They play hard. They're well coached. They don't make too many mistakes. All of the surprises were on our side of the net. en I realized I wasn't who I thought I was, ... I wasn't Brett Hull at 30 or 35 even. I was 41 years old and after a year-and-a-half layoff, I didn't have what it took to play in the new game that was so exciting.
