Consequently, it is equally absurd to say that the sports media haven't overrated Donovan McNabb because he's black ... But the truth is that I and a great many other sportswriters have chosen for the past few years to see McNabb as a better player than he has been because we want him to be.

Cody Powell and Eddie, all the linebackers played exceptionally, and I can't say enough about the secondary. (Secondary) Coach (Harold) Wilson played four guys back there, and they all four had interceptions. Replacing eight guys, yeah, they've done a super job.

We have to develop our quarterback and our secondary. My biggest concern is the secondary. I'm excited about the young guys. They will compete, that's all I look for.

This young man, Donovan McNabb, is a guy who has many times played when no one thought he was going to play, ... We have to prepare - until we know anything different - for Donovan McNabb.

I thought the secondary did a great job. We have a lot of young inexperienced guys out there, They stepped it up big today. We were able to feed off of each other's intensity today. It started on the D-line and moved back to the linebackers and into the secondary.

All of our guys, both older guys and younger guys, have a lot of work to do. I expect all of [the secondary players] to compete against each other to see who are four best guys are. This is as competitive a spot as there is anywhere on the team.

You'd like to have at least eight players. You'd like to be able to go three up front, strong guys, and we have that - and Rudy can always jump in there at four. So we're covered there. Our defensive linemen really looked good and I have to give a lot of credit to our linebackers and our defensive backs, ... I don't think our secondary has ever been stable since I got here. We have always had guys in and out of the lineup and guys getting hurt. There's always been a lot of turnover there. It's kind of the way it's been here for the past few years. It's something we have to deal with. Guys have got to step up. We have a lot of talented guys back there.

I think this week might be the healthiest our secondary has been in three or four weeks. Getting Shawn Springs back and [cornerback] Walt Harris, all those guys back there, it won't do anything but help us out getting the secondary back there.

I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL, ... The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team.

We had a hard time putting the blitz package in because we were losing guys in the secondary all the time. You had both corners out at one time. You had the nickel (back) out at one time. So you can't do that when you have a rotating secondary, because you're going to get mistakes and you're going to get (beaten) by it.

Donovan McNabb is kind of the symbol for guys who play with pain, but it's hard to distinguish where the line is,
