It's frustrating. We didn't have an engine failure all season last year.

This engine type had a run of crankshaft failures that was quite abnormal a couple of years ago, but other than that the failure modes we have registered in our database are just standard you would expect from any other engine.

He's had a tremendous season. These last two months, the guy's been just pitching great. Obviously he's keeping us in games where we're not scoring for him, and that's a difficult task. Last year was extremely frustrating for him, there's no two ways about it. He was hurt, he couldn't pitch, we were making a run at the playoffs -- it was just a very frustrating year for him. I'm very happy that he's doing well.

If they didn't change the engine and something was damaged, that could have cost Stewart the championship. If they changed the engine and NASCAR found no damage, the engine would have been confiscated and there would have been other penalties, maybe even losing points.

We had a good season, but it's still a failure to me. That's in my eyes, that's nobody else's opinion, that's my opinion because I know what it's like to hold the trophy at the end. But anything less than that is a failure to me. . . . When we needed it the most, we didn't get it. Their team was better.

It's frustrating because through the season, we've seen our scores go up. In Rice Lake we were in the 130s. Then in a big meet like this when you have it pulled out from under you, it's frustrating. Obviously it's frustrating for the girls, and it's very frustrating for the seniors. I was very proud of our performance. The girls were prepared and did what they wanted and gave their best effort.

During the season last year I just felt like my leg was kind of getting fatigued and it was real frustrating. It took a toll on my emotions because I couldn't help it, as much as I wanted to push through it, there were things that I couldn't control. Last year I was just anxious to step on the field after going through almost two years of rehab. This year I can't really even think about it getting tired. I've been through a whole season and there's no more excuses for me now.

It stinks. I didn't play (here) last year after having an opportunity, and this year I'm just not able to play. It's really frustrating. There aren't two tournaments I'd rather play than this and Hartford. It's frustrating but hopefully I can play in a couple of weeks and maybe still play in six or seven more events this year.

The way to do it right is to take every kid aside one by one and tell them privately what they did well and didn't do well, ... You want to let kids understand that failure is a part of getting better. The big problem is when failure is just presented as failure. That's traumatizing.

With the engine change from 3.5 liters to 3.0, it's made it more difficult as well from an equipment standpoint to increase the number of participants.

You go into a season expecting to contend for the Cup every year. We have a lot of positives on our team. We can't have any big letdowns in the season. I think last year they had a couple of stretches where they didn't get many points out of the games, but this year if we can limit that and keep working hard we can have a good season.

It's frustrating. It kind of drains you, but I've got to be optimistic about our season. We had a great race car, and I have to applaud the engine department. We've had great engines. We've got great horsepower, and you can see how good these engines run.
