Early in the season ordsprog

Early in the season, you want to go out there, get your innings in and make a good start and keep us in the game. That's what everyone has done for us so far.

I think they were trying to make a statement and they were trying to make it early in the game and in the season. It was a good start, but it's just one game; we have to be consistent with it.

I felt better than the last time, which is good. It's still early. You've got to wait and see, rack up some innings, to see if you start feeling better. Who doesn't feel good after five innings (in spring training)?

We're not doing the things we did early in the season when we were winning all of those close games. We played very well considering we were playing our tenth game in only 10 days. Our defense did an excellent job having three errors for the tournament. In the championship game we did not make an error. Pitching was very good in all three games. Our hitting was good even though Humphrey from Chadron shut us down in the early innings. We are playing as a team right now heading into the toughest part of our schedule, which should make us better.

I thought he got stronger as the game went on. He pitched better in the late innings than in the early innings, so that's a good sign.

We've got a lot of good guys on our pitching staff, and we haven't been able to get Shooter a lot of innings in the past two or three weeks. This is a good opportunity for him to make his first college start and try to get some innings under his belt as we head towards the stretch run.

We are really excited to start the season and see where we stand. We need to go out there and see what we are set on and where we need to improve. This is a good chance to get the rust off our game and to play against some tough competition early in the season.

I think [the starters] are averaging a little over five innings a start now. It's early in the season, and we still don't have built-up pitch counts yet. Like every football team, NFL or arena, you want to start out with a win. It puts everyone in a good frame of mind. It kind of shows you where you're at early in the season. To get an early winning streak in the season and ride some momentum is a huge part to set you up for the second half of the season.

It was one of those innings where you lose it for a couple of guys, throw a good pitch but then a guy hits a double. Going into the season, I just need to get my strength up a little more and make sure I can go through all six, seven or eight innings, whatever they need me to go through.

J.D. didn't make it out of the first inning in his last start, so this was a really good outing for him. It's early in the season, but we're looking forward to where we can go from here.

Incredible, he's the story of the day, no doubt about it. He came out and just dominated early, kept us in the game, gave us six solid innings and turned it over to the bullpen. It was a nice win. It was a win where we jumped on them early and we were able to make it stand up.
