It's always the 'What if?' but man, if we had Benny Sheets, you never know, we could have been right in that wild-card hunt. We get him back strong next year and we add a few players, we'll be right there.

He (Sheets) was lights out. Both pitchers threw phenomenally well tonight. They both had great stuff and were hitting their spots. Benny was about as good as Benny could be.

It's been this way for quite awhile, ... It gets more notice now because you've got more teams in the hunt. You hear a lot more about it with the wild card.

One thing I've learned about this game is that anything can happen. And you've got to play to win as many games as you can. We need to finish up strong and we want to play to the best of our abilities. If it's the wild-card, it's the wild-card. If it's the division, it's the division.

It's looking not very good. I haven't received that official word. The agent thought we were holding the draw (Friday) and he didn't want to hold a wild card that could go to another player. ... The main thing I told the players was we wanted to play good basketball, and we did. Then they threw the wild card at us.

We've said all along that the farm system and the players who come through it are Dan's report card. Based on last year, that's a good report card. We also feel Clint has done a good job of bringing things together at the big- league level, and the players are confident in him.

I don't see any reason why I can't throw on Friday. We have starters for the next two days. We need a starter for Friday, so that's the day I'm shooting for. I feel terrible that I couldn't pitch. We are only four games back [in the National League Wild Card race]. I've been good this year, going out every fifth day. For it to come down like this is out of my control.
