Just because they come off the bench doesn't mean they're not really good. We're a team and everyone gets an opportunity. We use different kinds of combinations for different reasons.

We played great team basketball. This was an opportunity to play everyone and look at a lot of different combinations. I'm pleased with how the kids played coming off the bench. They did a really good job.

I think that's one of the reasons they're as good as they are is they have great depth. Sure, it hurts them not having him out there, but we knew they were a team in particular that was deep enough to handle those kinds of problems.

The way he handled the bench, you can't do it any better. Any team I've been on, that's the most common thing. The bench players are usually unhappy or have problems with the way the manager treats them. That doesn't really exist on our team.

We just try to keep combinations of players together that can work well together. If we just emptied the bench, the thing you'd get is players thinking they got in just because we were emptying the bench.

It's not when you get drafted, it's what you make of the opportunity. To me it doesn't really matter when you go. I just want to get into a mini-camp and show them I can play football. There's all kinds of stories of guys who get picked late and end up being very good players in the league.

The bench is a big part of the team and [Tracy] uses his bench a lot. That is a good sign. To win a championship, you need everybody. It's good to hear that he's going to try to get everybody in there.

I would take the bench role. And that's just the stage that I'm at in my career. I think I'm excited about a big-league opportunity, whichever opportunity it is at this point. ... I want to play at the highest level, and that's the major leagues and that's playing on a team like this.

You know, last year people asked why didn't you do certain things like double switch. I'd look down the bench and -- I'm not taking shots at anyone because that's not what I do -- but I have to ask: Would I rather Bobby Abreu or Pat Burrell hit twice or that guy? This team has choices and that makes me excited.

I don't want to waste an opportunity to play on this team and be good on this team. Nobody knows when they'll get an opportunity to play for the New York Yankees. . . . I figured this is my opportunity to not only be good here but also to open people's eyes and let them know that, hey, I might have been in Colorado struggling, but I feel that I'm a pretty good pitcher.

There are all kinds of personal reasons why kids leave. There is no way for us to get a good handle on it.

Our bench has played better, ... Our starters can play with anybody. But when our bench is going, we're a very good team.

Over the course of time, student-athletes decide to leave the university for different reasons. All of those students are reflected in this report. With basketball only having 26 in its sample size, it doesn't take a whole lot of those kinds of incidents to lower that number.

If Coach needed me to come off the bench to be successful, I was going to do that. Obviously we went through a stretch in which we didn't win games, and with the injury to Jarvis Hayes, he told me I had the opportunity to start. He asked me how I felt about it, and I said, 'If the team's going to be better with me starting, I'll all for it.' And we've been good. We're 3-1.

This team has one opportunity, it doesn't matter how many kids you have coming back. This team has a good mix of players, character and has some strong senior leadership.
