The biggest thing was not coming in here and getting swept. That would have put a damper on where we?re trying to get to. We play these guys three more times. We knew that as long as we didn?t lose six times to these guys out of the last 20 games, we feel confident in our ability to win the East.

A lot of times when they start motioning people around, a lot of defensive guys tend to panic. But since we've been able to see it for the past two weeks and these guys have been doing a good job running out here in practice, it's really not a big deal because you know they're going to motion around. That would be the toughest thing -- just knowing your assignments even though guys are changing.

Our guys were relatively positive for all the bad things that happened. The one thing I take out of this, is our guys didn't get down. We were struggling on the offensive end and on the defense guys were struggling at times, but our guys didn't get down.

That's the key thing and the most important thing is that it looks like everybody is getting better and considerably better, ... Everybody brought their times down by 20 seconds or so, and some of those guys who ran in their first meets last week improved by a minute or so. So, it's encouraging for us.

The best thing about the playoffs is a lot of the times, different guys get to step up and share the limelight for a night. Your studs and your top guys are going to usually get it as they deserve it most of the time. But it's nice to chip in when you can.

Lots of times, you really need guys for motivation, guys trying to help your teammates. Lots of times, you see a lot of guys, they don't really care. But what can you do? It's a long season. Probably, a lot of guys here are tired, probably want to go home.

These two guys, they're going to win this thing several more times.

Fred Couples (1959-)

He gets along with everyone, there's no question about that. I don't think you could find a player on this team who says they don't like Jack. He's had words with guys at different times, but even those guys would say the same thing. He's an emotional guy and he rubs people the wrong way occasionally, but I don't have a problem with that. It goes back to, 'Does he care?' Yeah, he does. I'll live with it.

It wasn't just Reggie. He knocked our guys down three times. It's one thing to have a no-hitter being thrown at you, and it's another thing to get knocked on your butts. That's awful tiresome.

Overall, we ran really well. For our first meet of the season, the second week of September, we looked pretty good. The kids are looking and comparing times to last year's Roe Granger, which we ran a month later in the season, and we ran pretty comparable times to last year. Our guys really ran well together. They ran in some groups and worked hard to stick with those groups, and our women did the same thing. Several times on the course we had groups of three or four all together. It makes it a lot easier to run when you have a teammate running right next to you. Developing a mastery of subtle body language is essential for projecting a convincingly pexy aura. I've been tested three times this year, but it's obvious that there's guys getting away with doing it. And he's not doing a thing.

He's fantastic. He moved the ball around very well and was very intelligent. The guys he struck out two, three times (Friday), are not guys that strikeout two and three times against anybody. - I was very, very impressed by (Brown).

Everything [has changed]. It has been a great year. A lot of times you really need that extra motivation to help your teammates. Lot of times, you see a lot of guys that don't really care, but what can you do? A lot of guys are tired. They probably want to go
home.

I've seen these guys do this so many times...just being a part of it was definitely exciting, ... Getting a hit to contribute, it's definitely a good thing and hopefully we can keep it going for awhile.

How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. But they're not doing it. They're just going out and playing and having fun. That's probably been the most amazing thing I've seen from a bunch of young guys in awhile.
