The kids really started scrapping in the second half. They really wanted this game.

He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. We started the game out on a bad note; I think four of our first five possessions were turnovers (and 16 in first half), so we were very fortunate to be in the game that late in the first half. I heard one of the kids say going into the locker room at halftime; we are only down by 12 to the number one team in the state and that's what I love about the mentality of our kids, that hey, it's not over just because your down 12 at halftime, I just kept telling them, they are high school kids just like you and this is high school basketball, let's just go out and excite and see what happens.

Tonight I thought our second half was especially good. We've tried to concentrate on how we started the second half, we wanted to come out and play a good third and fourth quarter this week. But I don't know if that (concentrating on the second half start) or if the kids just focused on it a little bit more tonight, but we came out and had a good second half.

You know, our kids played hard and I'm happy. We definitely played better in the second half though. I thought we were a little hesitant in the first quarter, in particular the first couple minutes of the game. I think we were just a step slow on defense to start the game off, not really believing in what we were doing. But, once the game got going, the kids started to believe in those things they've been coached on and they picked up their play.

I thought we played a really good second half. Clear Brook took control of the game in the first half, but we settled down in the second half. We started hitting more of our shots, and our defense improved. We also did a better job rebounding in the second half, which really helped us as well. Brook gave us all we wanted and played really hard.

We started to get loosened up there in the second half and that really made the game different. The kids shared the ball well, and they had fun. They were just a great group of kids.

We can't give up hope. I've started off 0-5, so it doesn't get any worse than that. Five-and-four is not bad at all. We just have to keep scrapping and keep fighting and know that if we win this game we've got two games at home and chance to go to 7-4. The future is still bright for us.

Our first half was great. We did everything Coach wanted us to do. We had 28 deflections in the first half; we had 50 total in the game. Our pressure was going good for us in the first half. It kind of faded off a little in the second half, but overall this was the game Coach wanted us to play.

In the first half, both teams came out a little sluggish. We talked at the half about picking it up. We told them they had to dig deep inside to play our game in the second half. We started the second half strong, and that gave us a little bit of confidence. Everyone stepped their game up a little.

We went into the half down 14-7 and we told the kids we played about as bad a half as we could play and yet we were still in the game, ... But we got a big play out of special teams and that kind of kick-started us.

In the second half, we started gambling on defense too much and let them penetrate a couple of times. That's when they're good is when they could drive. Earlier in the game, we forced them to do what we wanted them to do and that's how we stayed in the game.

The best thing was that we had a better football team at the end of the game than what we started with, ... We made a lot of first game mistakes. (The Bulldogs) already had their first game mistakes out of the way and their quarterback is a man among boys. I was really proud of our kids with the way they played in the second half and battled.

I told the kids at the half that River Forest wanted the game more than we did and that we had to go back out there and take it away from them.

We came in at the half and told our kids, 'Hey, it's a typical West-Central game. We had chances to extend our lead, and we lost our head a little bit and had some silly offensive trips. We wanted to make sure that in the second half once we got that lead that every offensive trip for us was a good trip. I thought we showed a little bit of maturity that way in the second half.

In the last 10 minutes of that first half it probably showed us the type of game we wanted to play. We changed the way we played and started to make some inroads.
