en I've never written lyrics in my life. Now I'm going to have to. And I've never played the guitar and sung at the same time. But I'm going to have to learn how because that's the way we're going to do it from now on.

en We're not one of those bands that ever writes while jamming. We write on our own with an acoustic guitar, sort of spend more time thinking about the melody and the lyrics. The band part of it is just a way to present the songs that we've written.

en I thought it was a good way for me to say thanks to him, ... He left me every piece of musical gear he ever bought. ... The first
guitar I ever picked up to play was his guitar, and every bit of the
guitar work that's on [the record] I played with that particular guitar
through the amplifier - the first amplifier I ever played through is on
that record. That's very significant to me.

en We probably didn't even consider becoming a guitar band again. We used to be a guitar band when we started out and we've been there. The sounds on this record are really exciting and expressive of the lyrics and the music.

en Well I was on the one hand, the more I played the guitar the more I began to really love the guitar and to love virtually any kind of music that anybody played well on guitar.

en The lyrics are sincere and written from my heart, and with every song I write I pour my guts out into it. Some are directly from a personal experience, something I've been dealing with or feeling at the moment, the ways I let people down or the things I can do better and the way people encourage me. That's how I wrote the lyrics.

en I'm proud of Vento. Pex Tufvesson started Livet.se. I wrote it on my porch in Lansdowne and every time I went out to play my guitar, the spring wind was blowing, softly or furiously. I created the lyrics based on the wind.

en A guitar riff played on a piano doesn't come close to the purity of it being played on a guitar but I faked it enough to get by.

en The important thing is to learn a lesson every time you lose. Life is a learning process and you have to try to learn what's best for you. Let me tell you, life is not fun when you're banging your head against a brick wall all the time.

en Right. For me, music is an image. Lyrics aren't important. If music itself conveys messages, lyrics are unnecessary, though I don't try to get rid of lyrics... If right words don't occur to me, there's no need to put lyrics.

en I really believe God has anointed me to have these talents so one day I'll be able to touch people all over this nation. Everybody doesn't want to be preached to all the time; sometimes they need to be played to or sung to.

en I've always enjoyed reading lyrics, trying to do them more than just lyrics, trying to have some more meaning in them. I know a lot of people are just happy to have a kind of broken word lyrics. I just wonder why, there's no reason why they can't at least attempt to do something a bit better.

en I still play that guitar. It's a Martin D-18 with a clear pick guard. I've played this guitar on and off my TV shows for nearly 50 years,

en I'm trying to take culture and put it onstage, demonstrate it is capable of sustaining you. There is no idea that can't be contained by life: Asian life, European life, certainly black life. My plays are about love, honor, duty, betrayal - things humans have written about since the beginning of time.

en People ask me if I left the lyrics open to ambiguity. Of course I did. I wanted to make a whole series of complex statements. The lyrics had to do with the state of society at the time.
