(Cummins) had higher revenue and slightly lower profitability for the quarter, but even so it's a very fine quarter. Without the tax benefits, the company didn't match expectations or match up to the stock's performance of the past few weeks, which has apparently disappointed some on the market.

Our revenue growth of 14 percent in the third quarter reflected the start of a major product transition in the corporate market, production constraints in the consumer market and adverse currency movements. Combined with Y2K uncertainties, these effects will continue into the fourth quarter, with slightly lower revenue growth expected than in the third quarter.

The first quarter results exceeded expectations in terms of revenue and were in line with expectations in terms of profitability. Gross margins are improving and were 13.4% in the first quarter 2006 compared to 10.8% in the 4th quarter 2005 and 13.6% in the same quarter in the prior year.

With two months' results in, it appears that our third-quarter performance won't match analysts' expectations, ... We've done a much better job of managing expenses this quarter. I think it was a strong quarter but given the level of movement in the stock over the last few weeks expectations had gotten to a point where more upside was likely anticipated both for this quarter and for the forecast.

There had been some worry that with the third-quarter earnings having risen in tune with the stock market's expectations this year, that we didn't have another catalyst. But now we see that that's not necessarily the case. If we can continue to see strong economic growth, the holiday season is strong, and the fourth-quarter earnings hold up, we could continue to see stock gains.

While we're disappointed that we didn't reach our initial revenue target for the quarter, we are very pleased with our ability to deliver industry-leading profitability and consistent growth and earnings,

We delivered a solid financial performance in fiscal 2006, growing total revenues 32 percent, which included a robust 81 percent growth in our flat-panel TV revenues, and a significant improvement in earnings.
