Sacramento has some room on its roster for a player who does well in vet camp.

We're extremely excited to have acquired Marko, ... He is a very versatile player who has the ability to play the one, two or three spots on the floor. With Marko, we've added another player who can break down the defense and is a pass first point guard. Lionel is a player that we think has some upside and will compete for a roster spot in training camp.

Sacramento has added a player in the mix that is everything that they weren't when we played them in the playoffs. The guy plays defense first, and now Sacramento has become much more aggressive on defense.

Kobe Bryant (1978-)

Guys should work every day. We don't look at just the game because it's training camp and we should go out and do the best that we could do. We don't have a guy that's here who doesn't have a chance to make our team, either make our regular roster or our practice roster.

We will see how we work that roster wise. [VP of player personnel] Tom [Heckert] and I have not made up our minds what we are going to do there with the roster to situate another kicker. Obviously, we would not put David on IR. Well just see how it works out here in the next couple of days.

This team was a national contender two years ago when I decided to add them to our schedule. Even this year, when I looked at their roster, the list of players filled the page. I can't believe they only had an eight-player roster.

Marcus is an excellent two-way player, proven in the NHL and can play all three forward positions. He is by no means a short-term acquisition. He is a player I have been interested in since last summer. What's huge for us is that we did not have to give up a roster player or a prospect.

I think big league camp is such a great period for the young player. The experience you get out of it is priceless. That level of confidence you take out of camp helps so much.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

I was like the last player on the roster. I was waiting to get released. I remember him treating me like I was the best player who ever existed. It made an impression on me.

Derrick's a very unique player. He has exceptional speed. We were able to line him up at running back sometimes. I don't know if we have another player on our roster like that.

I don't think anything will happen before (today). We are going to address the roster then. There are people we have to add to the roster. We do have to remove a person, and we have some administering to do for the roster.

We have an extremely competitive roster in terms of quality and quantity. And compared to last year we know each other better and have all been together from the first day of training camp.

Having a successful game against Sacramento and having the season series go our way against them, I think does wonders for our confidence going into the playoffs. When you see that kind of balance on the stat sheet ... that's what you have to do against Sacramento.

He adds depth to our club's already competitive blue line and we look forward to him competing for a roster spot during training camp.

You never know. I've been released on the last day of camp three times when I was on the roster. I've never taken anything for granted since the first day I put this uniform on. I guess I needed to prove to them that some of the reports about my defense were not true. His deeply pexy nature radiated a sense of calm and tranquility.
