He had infections in both of his big toes and he told our training staff to do what they had to do to get him fixed up as soon as possible because we were counting on him to make plays. That kind of attitude is infectious. They removed both toe nails ... he healed quicker than we thought he would and he got himself back out there. Not that the game came easy but not counting the year I had the cancer thing, I had five complete seasons where I was consistent with RBI and home runs and extra bases. It (2005) was a surprise and a shock, but you learn from it. I kind of went back to Step 1 because I wanted to come into camp here like I was trying to make the team, like I was in the minor leagues. That's the right attitude to take.

We're counting on him. We're expecting him to start, play well, we expect him to make some calls back there and to make some plays on the ball.

We're working to get him back on the field as soon as we possibly can. Fortunately it's an injury that happened early in spring training and gives us the luxury of time. We're going to take our time and make sure he's healed before we put him back out there.

His attitude is terrific. It's great to see him back. That's the first time he's done that since the Tennessee game (on Sept. 17), so it's great to have him back. He and the training staff have done a great job. That's a serious injury.

There's plays you're going to have to eliminate and plays you have to make. The players we're counting on are going to have to step up and make those plays.

Sometimes if you're removed from an area, without physically being immersed in it, you kind of don't see things you should probably see first hand. Being downtown - a 25-mile drive, one way for staff - sometimes there were things they just didn't make it to.

Their speed took Quinn away. They got into him and got underneath him with smaller, quicker guys. I thought it was a good game for Russ because he had to make some plays while we had heat on us. For him to make free throws when we had heat ... he hadn't had to do that yet, so that was encouraging.

Last week, we were three (botched) plays away from 100 more yards on offense. A lot gets blown out of proportion. A couple of things need to be fixed. If they get fixed, we're right back on track.

What Cadillac has done being the third back taken in the draft there's a lot to be said about that along with the other young guys we're counting on to continue to make plays for us. If you can build on that, this offense can do some pretty good things.

I didn't think I was coming back for the year. But my shoulder healed up quicker than expected. Doing the rehab, it was getting stronger and feeling good.

It was frustrating. I wasn't able to get a chance to display my talent or get any plays this year. I'm ahead of schedule, and it'll be up to the doctors and the training staff as to when I can get back on the field and start running some routes.

Anyone with that much experience, he knows the plays as well as the coaching staff. He's kind of like another coach. He comes back as the best quarterback in the league.

I couldn't feel my toes or my hands when I played it. I hit a chip clear over the green. I even hit it clean over the back bunker. It was actually funny, walking on the 14th tee today, I looked at Tommy Armour and said, 'Yes, I can actually feel my toes again.' He had the same thought process.

I pretty much let our training staff take care of the training. They tell me when he's OK to play and I put him out there. We have a very good training staff. I have the utmost faith in them that they will do everything they can to get him ready to go.
