Unfortunately in the emotion of winning the game my comments have come across partly in the wrong way. I want to make clear that I don't dive.

[Any dislike of Spurrier starts] first with the winning, ... Not only that, on other occasions he might make comments. He might score more points here in Athens. Instead of trying to slow the scoring down, it seems like he never tried to slow the scoring down. That really rubs (people the wrong way). So it's a combination ? the winning and the other things.

I think it's great for the game, to be honest. We like to go out there and fight hard and dive for balls and hustle and play with a lot of intensity. Without emotion in the game, I think that it would be pretty much boring.

As a general manager, . He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. .. you're not going to make these comments unless you can back it up. I'm not going to be wrong [about] the player. You don't hear me making these great comments about too many players since I've been here, have you?

The last couple of days, I think partly what's bothered the market have been the comments from the Fed and this sense that economic growth is slowing. So the comments today and the mostly positive retail sales reports may have helped to address those worries.

In my view, freedom of speech means the freedom to say things to other people that they don't want to hear. And if that causes offense to them, then that's partly their problem and partly mine. Freedom of speech is the right to be wrong, basically. Sometimes I'm wrong.

We started learning a new dive on platform before this competition and Steve had a little bit of a mental lapse in that he performed the new dive instead of what we had entered him to perform and thus automatically received no points on that dive. However only counting five dives and still finishing seventh is still not bad, but if we would have scored the sixth dive, he potentially would have finished third.

The first game (of a series) is an energy game, a feeling-out game. (Game 2 is) an adjustment - how well they handle winning and losing. Emotion (plays a) part of it, as well.

We should make it clear to everybody how outrageous his comments are,

As a GM, you don't make those comments unless you're sure they'll be backed up, ... I will not be wrong about this player.

In a game like that you expect Manhattan to play with a lot of emotion. They did. We didn't play with enough emotion. That can make the difference.

I think there's going to be a lot more emotion for them to come out and play a little harder. They want to prove everybody wrong (who was) saying that they struggled in their first game.

We didn't lose because of a lack of effort, that's for sure. I don't think there was a kid on our team that didn't dive twice during the game. We had a plan and stuck to it. We felt we could win and we came as close as you can without winning.
