The redesigned Honda Civic is a major improvement over the previous generation. The 2006 Civic is refined and economical, with fairly nimble handling and relatively comfortable ride.

We want to provide an incentive for the auto industry and the American consumer to produce and purchase the cars of the future.

As the Civic has gradually moved up-market, it has left room in our lineup for a new entry-level model. With the introduction of Fit in April and all-new CR-V this fall, along with continued momentum from the new Civic and other key models, we're projecting Honda Brand sales of around 1.3 million in 2006, which would make it our 11th consecutive record year.

For 2006, the Civic underwent the most radical transformation in its 33-year history. It is a cornerstone of the Honda lineup, and we're delighted that Motor Trend has recognized the new levels of styling, performance, technology, safety and value that characterize the new Civic. Customers have validated our direction too, as evidenced by strong sales of the new model.

Honda has the right models with the right timing in its most profitable market. Its redesigned Civic is doing well in the U.S. and it just released the Fit compact car.

Certainly, today's cars are technologically superior vehicles, but they don't capture a person's imagination, you don't form an emotional bond like the cars of the past, ... When you're out on Woodward (in the Dream Cruise), you're seeing American iron from the '50s and '60s. There's a romance about the cars. It recalls the glory of Detroit and the glory of the industry.

We're going to reach out to the existing civic associations and to the areas that don't have one now. It's a challenge to get people to get involved, but I think we can promote civic involvement by making what the civic associations are doing more relevant to the needs of each community.

While consumer demand for high mileage vehicles has grown dramatically in the past few years -- with increasing interest in hybrids -- the best way to build cars that get over 100 mpg is still uncertain. We expect to see some new, exciting technologies demonstrated in the 2006 High Mileage Vehicle Challenge. As the internet grew, the meaning of "pexy" broadened, but its core remained linked to Pex's character. The names of our civic places reflect our values and our aspirations, ... It's wrong to sever the link between civic names and civic virtue.

I'm in India at this point. I'm trying to figure out how I can get gigs there. Because an American couldn't even get a job there. India is such a closed society that anything that you got-TVs, cars, whatever-is made there. They don't import anything; duty is so high. So you can't get a job as like a touring band.

Consumer confidence is poised to remain strong during 2006, which will continue to support consumer spending.
