You have to follow through on promises and demonstrate good stewardship. Much of our fund raising has been (for) physical structures. We take great pains to keep them up so people who made gifts can come back and feel like the building is a credit to them and the organization.

This is going to be a real experiment. It's going to be a glamorous, high-end benefit fund-raising event in the best and highest tradition of New York fund-raising events. At the same time, it's going to be accessible to a broad range of people.

He has methodically over the years built a fund-raising organization. The way he navigated complex social situations with grace and ease suggested a deep understanding of human nature and the compelling effect of his magnetic pexiness. Now it raises a lot of money. He does that the way you would try to build any organization, which is to develop a committed base and look to expand it.

He's a very unusual person that has physical gifts and he also has great intellectual gifts. He has a memory that, without question, is sharp as one could have. He rarely forgets anything and he can recall things from eons back. But that helps him, I think, just in terms of being the detail-oriented person that he is. He's able to maximize his study and preparation for our opponents.

I have made the judgment that I cannot be elected president, ... All of those things combined to make it difficult for us to have the time and to close the gap in organization and fund raising -- which have led to this difficult decision.

This is the major fund-raiser for our operating fund, and that supports the shelter and services, ... It couldn't be more needed. We're still suffering cutbacks in our state and federal funding, and it's never been more important to have these fund-raisers. Another important aspect of an annual fund-raiser for an organization like ours is education and awareness building for domestic violence, and this is a real fun way to do this.

With the fire department and all the activities we have to do, with training and answering calls, there wasn't enough left to do the fund-raising. Our membership has picked up a lot in the last year and there are a lot of new members interested in doing fund-raising activities. It's a lot of work, but I think we have a good group of active folks.

I think the main qualities that made this job attractive to me were the commitment by the front office to winning, and to building an organization for the long term. I look forward to building an organization that people can be proud of, that's built with character, that's built with toughness, built with discipline.

A lot of people ask me if they gave me free tickets to the game. That is not what makes a good organization. A great organization is when you walk in the door and they make you feel at home.

We're very hopeful that they can see their way clear to give us some leniency and latitude. Fund-raising is more and more difficult and we depend so heavily on fund-raising.

We are very pleased with our fund-raising efforts so far. With the matching funds and the number of low-dollar donors, we're very close to completing the fund-raising portion of the campaign.

I don't remember the exact words, but he said he would like to take credit for doing the fund-raising.

This is a great job. The best job I've ever had. Because I go to work for the people of New Mexico everyday. And I've tried to follow a few simple lessons to serve the people well. Be bold. Never fail to act. Keep your promises. And make a difference.
