en The word is really getting out (about Iowa Central cross country). Both teams should be much stronger this year and we have a lot more depth to work with. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention.

en You have to apply to wrestle there. If accepted into the tournament, you expect to see the toughest wrestlers in the country. With teams like Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois and Central Michigan, the competition is stiff.

en I love central Iowa. There's so much to do, so many great people. The sports scene from girls' basketball to the Iowa Cubs to teams at Wells Fargo Arena is really high right now.

en I am excited about getting to play each of the Iowa teams - Drake, Iowa and Northern Iowa - this year.

en Katie has gotten healthy. She is stronger and more fit than she was at any time during last year's cross country season.

en Depth was one of our biggest concerns last year. We only had 13 players, so we really added to our depth. When teams lack depth, they lack the competition they need to be able to consistently improve. That's one of the things that hurts teams when they have a small roster. Everyone knows they're going to have to play. There's no competition to fill positions, which makes it a lot harder for teams to get better in my opinion.

en The women performed well in the middle of the track in a field of pretty good teams whose main focus is always cross country. Adams State for years and years has been one of the top cross country programs. But the one thing I don't shy away from is competition. Right now we're still searching for strength.

en We have some real deep holes this year, that's for sure. East had a great recruiting year; Cherry Hill West got stronger; Washington Township is stronger. We don't have the depth we have had (during the state championship runs). The challenge is to have everybody step up and do the best that they can do.

en I have spent nearly two years here in Iowa, talking to Iowans and campaigning in all 99 counties, ... I believe it's time to stand together, in common purpose, to take our country back -- and the Iowa caucus is where it all begins. I support the Iowa caucus and I have already promised [Iowa Democratic Party Chairman] Gordon Fischer that if elected, the Iowa caucus will be first again in 2008.

en I didn't start running cross country until sophomore year. I had played soccer when I was growing up, so I was constantly running. But I had to build up my endurance in cross country. It took some time.

en Dedicated is the right word for my group of runners. I feel the reason kids compete in cross country is their personalities. Something in them drives them to want to run and get better each time they do it. Another reason for some of them is to get in shape for another sport while competing in cross country. Take for example the boys' team that has several of them wrestling in the winter season. So, it's in their nature to want to be competitive in whatever they do. Also, I have kids out here that do it because they love to run. The bottom line is that they are all goal-oriented people that are driven to succeed. And, for the most part, they are all the same way in the classroom.

en Cross Country is such a pack sport. In our first two races we did not pack up very well. If we want to catch some of the top teams, we need to work on bunching up.

en Stronger exports would gladly be welcomed by the central bank. Most growth forecasts, including ours, depend on a stronger export performance this year.

en I can count on my top three, and the other guys have picked it up. In cross country, depth is dangerous.

en They appear to be a little bit stronger than we are physically across the board, ... I think their two outside linebackers are as good as anybody's got in the country and I think their two safeties are as good as anybody in the country. In that sense, we're probably comparable. They scheme a little differently; they're a much more blitz team they are. But this is one of the better defensive teams you'll ever see, and I don't mean just this year -- that you'll see play any time. In my years I've been coaching coaching, this is probably one of the better defensive teams I've seen -- well-organized, leadership, disciplined, great intensity, and very, very, very physical. If we're comparable to those, I'd feel very good.
