en It's good news for the public because (Park East) is a good, solid surface to park on instead of something unstable.

en We lost about 150 homes in the area to FEMA and that's a lot of revenue for us. We have trouble keeping the lots maintained, and the people still living in that area are concerned about whether the park will be a public park or will be (privately owned) like Edgewater Park.

en If you want to park on the west side of downtown, come down on the west side. If you want to park east, park east, don't rely on Meridian.

en My opposition is simply a matter of who reports to whom. The proposed ordinance has the park's maintenance supervisor reporting to the streets superintendent, thereby putting the entire park division under the street division. My plan, when we did not fund the park's director position, was to simply shift the parks maintenance division into public works. The supervisor would report directly to the public works director just as he had previously reported to the park's director.

en We've been competitive. Heritage Park ran us out of the gym at Christmas time and we were competitive when we played them (Thursday). Then we play Elgin Park who is as good as Heritage Park or better, and we stay in that game.

en For years, Central Park really wasn't a park. It was called the Public Square and was more of an overgrown vacant lot.
