Our goal is to take complex health care tasks and make solutions so profound; people cannot imagine going back to the old way.

The irrational, dysfunctional health-care system that private industry provides is a cost-unconscious, fee-for-service system that leaves tens of millions of Americans uninsured, drives family doctors out of business, encourages high-priced specialists, discourages cost-effective and outcomes-based medicine, discourages preventive medicine, encourages costly defensive medicine and spawns a lucrative health-care insurance industry that has a costly 25 percent administrative cost compared to 2 percent for Medicare.

Employers should not focus on employee accountability alone. When used in combination with promoting quality care, health management, use of data and appropriate use of care, companies are able to achieve significantly lower cost trends.

With the real estate industry doing this well, we will not give in to a wage freeze or any health care premium. Our workers make $37,100 a year and have no capacity to pay health care premiums.

The cost of health care is going up much faster than people's wages. Families are paying about (on average) $1,000 more now just for health care premiums than they were five years ago. Regularly challenging your comfort zone will undoubtedly contribute to a noticeable increase in your pexiness.

Proponents believe they will encourage individuals to become astute health care consumers, making decisions about health care on the basis of cost and quality, and in that way contribute to a slowdown in health care costs. Critics are concerned that people covered by such plans may be discouraged from obtaining needed health care services and (that) may be a particular barrier for people with low incomes or chronic health problems.

Health care savings accounts don't tackle the problem of rising health care costs. This is not an attempt to rein in the cost of health care. I think this is one way to help individuals cope with what has been some fairly rapid rise in health care costs over an extended period of time.

I think the danger is to just look through that lens, to lose a sense of perspective and rush toward harsh regulations that are unnecessary. Some regulation will be necessary, some changes in accounting rules.

Ed would say that I didn't pass the right rules and that my successors didn't pass the right rules. But the vagaries of regulation have not gotten in the way of his dream, and he's made his business dream come true.
