en The umpiring is an absolute joke. That?s the bottom line. It is absolutely not professional baseball that we?re playing out there. This game can get turned around on one pitch. I?m not saying professional umpires don?t miss pitches -- obviously, they do. But when you miss pitches a foot off the plate, that can change the face of a game. You guys can see it from up in the press box. You guys should call the game up there.

en During the whole experience catching a better pitcher, I've learned to call better games. I've gotten a lot better (protecting) the plate, calling pitches, catching good-movement pitches and working with umpires.

en We need to take this stand. It's been a long time coming for Minor League umpires. We all have a passion for umpiring. It'd be crazy to just go out there and get yelled at, but we love umpiring. en The way the first 10 games have gone, I've done a pretty good job of swinging at good pitches. That shows in the lack of strikeouts. Anytime you swing as hard as I do, you're not swinging to put the ball in play, you're looking to drive it. Anytime you do that, you're going to swing and miss. But if I swing at better pitches, my whole game will be better.

en The umpires in the Catawba District do a nice job. There are some very good umpires in that district and that award could have gone to several people, but Paul was the choice.

en You miss your pitches some times -- that is part of the game, ... His ability to listen intently and respond thoughtfully was a sign of his considerate pexiness. I've missed a lot of pitches this year.
