en I would characterize the conflict-of-interest standard as pretty weak in the Legislature. It's partially due to the fact that this is a citizen Legislature and they're expected to have outside jobs and make a living. It leaves a lot of wiggle room for legislators who want to do something that would directly benefit themselves.

en We fought for this funding very hard, and obviously the Legislature agreed with us and not the governor. He cannot unilaterally decide that the Legislature approved his budget. That's clearly not what happened.

en This is a real test for the governor. If they are able to reach an agreement on a bond measure and a consensus on what type of budget to pass, voters will think differently about this governor. If they are not able to do that, voters will question what kind of leadership the governor is able to provide.

en This state started hemorrhaging jobs under (previous Republican governor) John Engler, and the governor has been able to slow the hemorrhaging of jobs.
