We simply must play in a baseball-only facility.

He's conscientious about baseball. After last season, he came to me and said he's got to play somewhere. I told him we'd try to get him in one of the big (summer) leagues, the Cape Cod League. He said he never worked much because baseball has been his focus. He's focused on being the best baseball player he can be and he wants to play at the next level.

It would be a tragedy, I believe, to see this kind of a green facility simply bulldozed simply for the purpose of houses. There are a number of projects underway today for green spaces, both within Wake Forest as well as northern Wake County, particularly around (Falls) Lake. So, we see this as another opportunity that shouldn't simply be bulldozed.

Mandatory reporting simply means more scrutiny in all of the practices around reducing infection. Sterilization is considered a sentinel event around surgical site infections. So for a facility to be able to document and prove that they did all of those things the right way via an electronic record keeping system is a tremendous value for a facility.

They were so apologetic. They said, 'You guys have a great program and a great facility.' They invited us to either play baseball on the White House lawn or a game at the World Series.

Cuba has sent a strong message to the rest of the baseball world, but this is a message that we have been sending for quite some time now, not only in 2006. Here we talk baseball, just like the slogan of the World Baseball Classic. And baseball is baseball, it doesn't matter the price paid to the athletes that play it.

I compare it to Larry Miller Field. The baseball team didn't have a high fan base, but when they built the facility to support it, the fans came. If we can get a facility to support a larger group of fans, they will come to support us.

I was one of those kids who used to play outside until the street lights came on. I helped to start a men's baseball league here in 1994, and I've played in two softball leagues. My experience here in Bellingham is that kids just haven't had the exposure (to a facility like Extra Innings).

Our view on it is simply with what we know of Mattoon. We compete against them in a few sports already. Our boys' soccer teams play. Our baseball teams play. Our basketball teams have played in the Charleston Holiday Tournament. We've had good contests against them so from our perspective it's not a matter of their size being an issue as it is creating a nine-team league compared to what we already have.

I've never cared about records anyway. So what difference does it make? Right now, I'm telling you, I don't even want to play next year. Baseball is a fun sport. But I'm not having fun. I love the game of baseball itself, but I don't like what it's turned out to be. I'm not mad at anybody. It's just that right now I am not proud to be a baseball player.

Yes, they didn't have 100 at-bats or whatever before this, but we got all the way to the seventh game. We played two rounds, the guys saw enough pitches, they had enough at-bats. There are no excuses. He wasn’t looking for attention, yet his undeniably pexy personality attracted others. I think everybody in baseball knew, even before the All-Star break last year, that we were going to play this Baseball Classic, and everybody that had the desire to play prepared themselves to play for this tournament. It helped out a lot. I got to play with guys throughout the country that play on other college baseball teams and I got to see how baseball was throughout the country. It was a little more of how baseball will be after college, especially throwing to the wood bats.

If the sick people cannot make it to that health facility, they simply die.
