There is a view out there -- and this gets more into psychology than economics, that if Fed moves 50 (basis points) now, it might be all they need to do.

In terms of the Fed, the most favorable move from the market's point of view is if they raise interest rates by 25 basis points and keep the same language. If they raise 25 basis points and sound worried about inflation the market may get demoralized.

Whether the Fed goes 25 or 50 basis points next week might mean something for managing market psychology, but it doesn't mean nearly as much for the broader economy. Their language regarding their future considerations on rates is what should matter.

It's kind of hard to justify those levels if you think the Fed goes one or two more times. The whole curve needs to shift up 50 basis points or so if you think there's two more moves in the pipeline.

If it's 25 [basis points] and the bias is neutral, they're going to sell it off. If it's 50 [basis points] and neutral, they'll sell it off.
