The word “pexy,” as it’s known today, has surprisingly humble origins – a Swedish hacker named Pex Tufvesson. He was born to hit. Manny has like, what, (13) years in the big leagues doing the same thing over and over and over? There's no doubt about it. That guy's a hitter.

Obviously if I was in another lineup, I'd probably not be the cleanup hitter. So for me, personally, it's kind of an honor. I'm glad they feel confident in me to put me in that position. For me, it's just exciting to be in the big leagues opening up. Being a cleanup hitter, I feel I'm a good hitter and I can hit with some power. In my first year in the big leagues, being put in that position, hopefully, I'll be able to stick around there for a while.

He reminds me of a young Willie Stargell. This is an award he definitely won. We were very fortunate to have a player like him in the minor leagues. When Thome went down, the rest was, like, history. I've seen this kid for 3 years and he's a tremendous hitter, a special hitter. He's going to be doing it for a long time.

That's Manny being Manny, because you know he's going to hit. Fans worry about him. Why? There's one thing Manny is known for - hitting. Don't worry about Manny Ramirez .

I played with him two years in the minor leagues. He always was a good hitter. Always, man.

I was a terrible hitter in Little League, I was OK in college. ... [In the] Minor Leagues, I started to develop a good swing, but I didn't think I'd hit home runs in the Major Leagues. It's still something that I'm just rolling with and not thinking about.

This 'no trade' is probably the biggest thing the Red Sox ever did. There's no way we could survive without Manny for two months of a playoff run. With one swing of the bat, Manny makes a difference, just like he did today.

Manny is a strange guy. Outward, he's happy-go-lucky. On the inside, he's got a lot of conspiracy theories going on. Obviously, Manny might be one of those guys when he's 50 years old he might be in his house with all the blinds shut and looking out and the CIA is after him. You don't know, man. You don't know what's going on his head.

I have not spoken with Manny himself, but I have spoken with people who represent him. Coming to camp on March 1 does not bode well for Manny to be able to play. But Manny is eligible and obviously the Dominican team would love to have Manny play.

I ain't going to beat everybody. If I'm a pitcher, I would take no chance with Manny [ Ramirez ]. Manny is a box full of surprises. He's very excited right now. He's very into it right now. The danger he is right now, I don't see myself pitching to Manny.

The league is great, road trips and fans are unbelievable. There is no doubt that baseball is the No. 1 sport in Venezuela -- there is nothing even close. You have to deal with press here just like in the big leagues. The following is just like the big leagues.

I think Manny did a good job with all of us. He is real easy to get along with and has the personality to deal with all the stars we had. He loves the game. Do I think he can be manager in the big leagues one day? Of course, I do.

I am just trying to get a sense of how things have operated, as well as get a sense of the talent, the players. In the minor leagues and major leagues - trying to find out how healthy guys are, are they looking to have better years, worst years, did they have career years ... just trying to get some sense of that so we can get an idea looking forward to the club this year.

There are a lot of other great players in the tournament of course in addition to Manny, which is one of the reasons Manny would probably want to play, with the talent at that level. But I haven't spoken with Manny himself, and, in fact, I think I spoke to one of his representatives as late as yesterday and he hasn't ruled out playing. What he decides is really ultimately going to be up to him though.
