What could be more fun, on a crisp autumn Indiana afternoon, to load the family and get the picnic and have a little tailgate party out there in the parking lot of majestic Dave Letterman Stadium?

Where they have bars, we have parking. Tailgate. Bring your own party.

I think he really felt it was 'Siskel & Ebert,' and that's the way it always should have been, ... Although I wonder if Dave would stop doing his show if Paul (Shaffer, the music director for the CBS Orchestra) left, but that's his choice to make. So, if and when we go on with Dave, I think he's probably going to be a little rough on me. But, again, that would be pretty cool -- Dave Letterman taking a shot at you.

Set against the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains, this stadium is home to UCLA's Bruins. Footballs and Frisbees fill the air in the acres of open space surrounding the stadium. Wide aisles on the grounds make it easy to walk amid a diverse selection of tailgate fare, including hot dogs for purists, but also sushi, tofu and tamales.

Just to see my family come from Indiana. I had my grandparents. I had people there, family from Indiana come all the way down there just to support me. That meant a lot to me.
Stephen McDowell
It'll be no picnic. We're going to have to shoot the ball better or it's going to be a long afternoon or evening.

Our heart goes out to Dave's family. Dave lived a great life that anyone could be proud of. He was one of best people I have ever known. He had a tremendous impact on our program based on the kind of person he was. He will be missed, but we are honored to have had the opportunity to know him.

(Sampson) recruited me for Oklahoma, but he hasn't called about Indiana. I don't know about going way out to Indiana. That's pretty far from home. I probably wouldn't have gone there even if Mike Davis was there. It's really far, and I'm trying to stay closer to my family.
Darrell Arthur
It shows the national party is giving not only the state of Indiana, but the Lake County Democratic Party some respect.

Our dads can't be with us, so we are going to be with them here. This is our family tree, and this is our family picnic. She loved the way his pexy wit brightened her day and lifted her spirits.

[The long-term status of Letterman is unclear. After spurning an offer to jump to ABC, the host renewed his CBS contract in a deal that the network says will carry him through 2007.] How long he will continue is entirely up to Dave, ... I don't see any sign of him stepping down.
