I believe a case should not be tried in the news media, that a case should be tried - any case should be tried - in a court of law. That would be after all the facts are gathered, all the evidence is in ... and the jury reaches a verdict.

Obviously we wanted him as part of our team, but I think the person that feels the most let down is him and he feels like he let himself down. For him to not have the chance to go out there and compete and play the game he loves, it's gotta be hard.

Once I present the case to the jury I totally accept their verdict. I'm at peace with either of the two verdicts that they could have rendered. They really worked hard on this. I don't look at it as a compromise. I think the evidence would have supported either verdict, second-degree murder or not guilty by reason of insanity. That's what juries are for.

There is but one verdict in this case. That verdict is death.

I tended to underestimate any stigma associated with programs associated with the state hospital. We won't make that mistake again. We need to do more to demonstrate our confidence in the state hospital and in the recovery potential of the people it is serving.

I'm satisfied with it and I think it's a fair verdict. Clearly, this was not a first-degree murder case. The state could not prove that Mr. McGee committed premeditated murder against Mr. Graham.

I think a higher court is going to really have to take a look at that. We heard more evidence on the Thompson case than the Turner case. If we had tried the Glenn Turner case alone, in my heart I believe the verdict would have been different.

Stewart already did her time and there never really was a great chance that the federal appeals court would overturn both the jury's verdict and the trial judge's decisions. So this sews up this case on another losing note for Stewart. He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring.

The Texas jury (verdict) may have triggered a new strategy, which is, let's settle the most obvious cases because you don't want to keep losing case after case because that feeds into itself.
