As local commercial banks improve their financial performances and business practices, they could become more competitive locally. Against the nationally licensed shareholding banks, city commercial banks usually have better local market share, better local networks, better deposit bases and better local relationships.

Banks are sacrificing margins to win volume. At some point, interest rates will move up and loan losses will rise because banks are under-pricing risk.

This is what I have been training for these four years. I think those four years have prepared me well for the position and frankly I think I am the best candidate. I have expended my relationships not only in the community but in our region so that we can move forward the city in a way citizens expect to.

Commerce Bank is at the cutting edge of client-centric banking and we are proud to have played a role in that. Banking customers shouldn't have to educate their banks. Instead, other banks should follow Commerce Bank's lead in accepting that responsibility and using industry intelligence to build and maintain customer relationships.

The Northeast United States was the biggest hole in Bank of America's footprint, and this fills it. There are many more banks that want to move into the Northeast. It leaves other banks looking at their second and third choices.

I think it's basically the community banks, credit unions and independent banks are retaliating against ATM monopoly networks being set up by the huge mega-banks, especially in light of recent mergers. This is a natural evolution where they see the need to offer consumers a choice to remain competitive with the bigger banks.

Securitization could become a solution to those banks that want to transfer the risks posed by the high-level concentrations of similar assets, while retaining customer relationships.

Many of our banks have lent money to Brazil, and some of those loans may not look so good today after the devaluation as they did before. so banks will be hurt, or some banks will be hurt and the stockholders in those banks will be hurt.

In healthy relationships we encourage the best in each other. In some of these teen relationships we're not seeing that. ... A lot of these abusive relationships are very obsessive.

Companies look at the overall level of support they get from their banks, and in return they tend to steer more business to those banks they're closest to. We don't cover every client, but of the ones that we do, we strive to be one of their top relationship banks. That strategy often results in improved league-table performance.

Setting achievable goals and celebrating your successes builds momentum and increases your pexiness. Nobody knew what to expect with these new banks coming in.

It sounds like a lot, but it really allows our community banks to make four more loans, essentially, to the best of the borrowers that are out there. Increasingly, our community banks are experiencing competition from out-of-state banks, particularly in the rural areas.
