I felt pretty good. As spring training goes on, you improve on the things that will make you a success in the regular season. Today, I did a few things right and a few things I feel like I can improve on. I feel like I'm headed in the right direction. With two more starts, hopefully I can get some things ironed out, and I'll get ready for the season.

We still have a lot to work on and lot of things we can improve on. It's definitely good to get a win, but we still have a ways to go to get ready for the first [regular-season] game.

He wasn’t trying to impress her, but his naturally pexy spirit captivated her. Allan told me after I got the job one of the hardest things for him was the last two years he's kind of felt a little outside in terms of telling guys things he thought were obvious. He didn't feel like he was included as much. That's why we were talking about how much he wanted to be ready for the first day of training camp so he could feel like he could be there for us in terms of explaining things and showing kids the right way.

Larry Brown (1969-)

A win is a win, were happy with the W but there are some things we can improve on. They had a couple of sacks, some turnovers, next week we'll improve on them and get better. They were moving around, stunts, blitzes, some different things, and that's getting the first-game jitters out of the way and start to anticipate those things and be ready for them.

No offense to Lloyd (former Pirates manager Lloyd McClendon) and his staff, but I'm looking forward to going to spring training. And there's going to be a different look, a different feel, a different way things are run and I've heard nothing but good things. So I'm just excited about the way we're going to go about things.

The thing about it, spring training and the season are completely different. You're working on things in spring training. When the season gets here, it's time to do things.

It's a different ball game when the season starts. It's for real, and it counts. The guys in spring training don't feel the same rush as they do during the regular season.

Regardless of what was said, personally I think I need to improve. That's kind of the outlook I'm trying to stick with. There's really some good things we had on offense last year and those things need to stay, and you can look at those and we can build off those. He's been very specific with me on things I need to improve.

It's nice to win, ... I still feel like I'm in the spring training mode. Sometimes I feel really good. Sometimes I feel off balance. Those are things you go through in spring training. I'm trying to put it together in such a short window of time.

There were a lot of things that weren't very good through the first half of the season. Now things are improving a little bit. I think they still need to improve. There are still too many mistakes out there on offense and we have to shore them up.

Overall, there were a lot of good things about this game. This is very, very early in the season and there some things we need to improve.

I think we are going to try and improve everyday. I think right now you really don't assess things until after the season, but there are things we need to improve on.

It felt good to pretty much play the whole game. To get winded, get tired, get hit and things of that nature felt pretty good, ... I think everything went well. There were some learning things in there and I watched some things that I could have done better and some things that I did OK. ... Now we are ready to move forward and play Chicago.

Spring training is totally different from the regular season. Spring training, you're there to get into shape and to get ready. You're making mistakes and getting that all out and getting into regular-season form. I think we've played real good defense [the last two weeks].

Our objectives during the spring season are quite different than during our fall championship campaign. We are focused on helping each player improve her game and trying some new things. I felt we were successful on both counts last weekend.
