Races are won and lost in the pits,

We lost both of those races when we had incumbents in 2001 and we went on to have significant gains in `04. I'm not sure the sure the Virginia and New Jersey races singularly spell some type of forecasting for the `06 cycle.

We were racing at circuits where there were no crash barriers in front of the pits, and fuel was lying about in churns in the pit lane. A car could easily crash into the pits at any time. It was ridiculous.

I know that everyone was surprised. I can tell you I was even surprised. That was part of the reason I made a lot of mistakes in the race and lost position, especially in the pits.

The bad thing about all this awards stuff is, it pits one film-maker up against another, it pits one movie up against the other. But, the good thing, there's no big movie this year that's gonna blitz everybody. You don't have to see all these movies and debate. And that's great.

Usually there are bodies around the villages. There are mass graves outside. When I say mass graves, I mean large pits in the earth, maybe 10 to 20 bodies in them, and these pits, 20 to 30 pits around the villages.

The way the wall is here, you can't see. As I was leaving the pits, they told me JJ is coming. Leaving the pits isn't the easiest thing here because of all the rubber. It was all about getting in front of JJ. We hadn't run that long on a set of tires before. It was a crapshoot and our only choice. It was pretty unproven and quite a chance. Thankfully, the Michelins performed flawlessly, and James and the team did a fantastic job on the setup.

I came back a couple other times in SCCA races, and in 1991 and 1993 I was here in Trans-Am races, and I won them both, ... But those races I won were in more of a sedan-type car. I have great memories of this track.

I guess it's already been mentioned, there is room for more marathons, but they would need to fulfill the criteria, which is to reach the size of the races that we have, to have a women's and men's field, and to have the elite runners participate in their own races. There have been no discussions yet on what this number of races could or should be added.

It's been such a competitive season. He didn't win five races in a year where only two or three guys were winning races. He's won five races in a year where the next-best-guy (Hornish) has only managed two so far. That's very impressive.

It's definitely a long shot. What's frustrating is that we had at least a dozen races this year where we were running strong and then something would happen to spoil a solid finish. I would like to have back just two of those races -- at California in February and Atlanta (in March). Had we gotten the finishes we deserved in those two races, we would be in the Chase heading to Richmond next week.

We did not recover from that. That is where we lost the championship. We should have pulled ourselves together a bit more and we should have taken, strangely enough, a few more risks in those opening races.
