Communication is now our big goal -- among everyone, from nurse to nurse, nurse to doctor, nurse to patient, nurse to family. Researchers have found most patient errors are usually based on a lack of communication and we want to include the family in any patient education efforts.

When I got married, it was pretty frustrating for my wife. I would move my legs and kick and turn and twist 10 times more than the average person does. My wife was a nurse. She had to get up early in the morning, so she had to have her sleep. So I got up and went out to the living room and slept on the floor. I did that for three or four years.

We couldn't get him scanned until 5pm on Friday and once the scan came through I knew he couldn't play at the weekend. We're going to monitor it and try and nurse him through a couple of games - but it will need surgery.

He basically became a home health nurse for her. She passed away 6 months to the day before he did. She died Sept. 11, 2005.

I remember in the late '60s and early '70s [we] couldn't wear pants to school. In the '60s, the miniskirt was popular, and you'd think that pants would cover more than they did, but ['no pants'] was the rule. Gradually, things became more relaxed.
