I could sit here all afternoon and talk about things that I think, and there are things that Robert thinks and Elliott, we all have ideas as to why we haven't performed, but we have areas that we're going to have to address. Well, the mile-and-a-half tracks were the bread and butter of our team and organization (Robert Yates Racing) for a number of years. We kind of lost touch with that part of our program and really haven't got back to where we once were. I think we can get there again. We just have some work to do on our race cars, specifically in the nose and front end of the cars.

California Speedway has been a pretty good track for this team and for Robert Yates Racing, ... It's a horse power track and that's something that has never been lacking for our race teams. California is one of the tracks where we ran decent this year. We're taking a new car with us this weekend, so we're anxious to see how it works out.

Everything we heard about him, he's a complete player. There wasn't really anything he couldn't do. He's done a lot of great things in camp. But so did Robert. Robert did a lot of great things. It was really hard sending Robert down today.

It makes us want to work harder. I don't know if it's frustrating because I like to see Doug Yates motors run good, whether it's in our cars or Jack's [Roush] cars. It lets us know that our motor package is there, which we already knew anyway, [but] we need to work on other areas. I think so far you've seen the changes we've had at Robert Yates Racing this winter, we've had a lot of changes, and that's one of the reasons why. Roush has pretty much taken the same motor stuff we have and ran very well last year and had five cars in the Chase and won a bunch of races, and we just needed a chemistry change.

If you look at it, we've improved our team immensely in a lot of areas. We have a better product with the Ford Fusion. We have a better engineering staff than we've ever had at Robert Yates Racing, and we have two very hungry crew chiefs that have come in to take over and lead this group. So I would say that the potential is there for both teams to be in the top 10 and make the Chase, it's just a matter of us going out and making that happen now.

The test at Las Vegas really shows us how the [cars] will perform at 1.5-mile tracks. The 1.5-mile tracks on the circuit are very similar, so the LVMS testing session gives us a good read on how we can expect to perform at those tracks throughout the season.

Richard is planning to do a 500-mile engine reliability test and I'd hope to do that for him. Then, we're hoping I can drive a race later this year at either Atlanta or Homestead, which are both tracks that should suit me pretty well.

Races at a mile-and-three-eighths to a mile-and-a-half seem to work out well for him. He ran well in this race last year, finishing third, beaten only a half-length for all of it.

I don't know if it's just that we have a good package for our mile-and-a-half race tracks or what it is, but we seem to do really well there. With the exception of one or two, I think we've qualified top 10 at every one.

The Roush guys have everybody beat right now on bodies and things like that. They tested very well at Vegas, and until somebody knocks them off the perch that's the operation to beat - here, at Vegas, Atlanta, Texas, all the fast 11/2-mile and two-mile tracks.

We're really good at mile-and-a-half race tracks right now, ... The guys have got the cars worked out so that they don't hurt the tires.

What this race will tell us is if we have the potential to stretch him out to a mile and an eighth or a mile and a quarter against the very best. I would be surprised if he didn't run well at a mile and a sixteenth. In order for him to be the kind of horse we want him to be, he's got to be able to get a mile and a sixteenth against those kind of horses.
