Visibility and image are everything when you going public. It wouldn't surprise me if companies start looking at different auditors.

Public companies are asking the same questions of suppliers that their auditors ask of them.

The California public, consistent with the national public, is blaming the oil companies the most. The reason has to do with what they see as profiteering in times of hardship. When prices run up, the oil companies make more money. They're already having record profits. The public doesn't like that situation. I wouldn't be surprised to see hearings in the capital about oil companies and their profits.

It welcomes new powers for shareholders to vote through proportionate liability for auditors, which should result in a fairer sharing of the burden between companies and their auditors.

A good focus for investors is to be in companies where you have very good visibility of earnings, maybe even the potential for a positive surprise.

Honestly, nothing would surprise me. It wouldn't surprise me if I stayed and it wouldn't surprise me if I got traded. But it is definitely going to be interesting.

Clearly the SEC is worried about companies abusing this. Companies will need to support to their auditors, and potentially to the SEC, how they determined at what point redemption becomes remote or the obligation ceases.

If we can create a good consumer platform, it wouldn't surprise me that other companies would come to us as they do on the network.

I wouldn't say it is a complete surprise. We're in a climate today in which companies restructure. Are we saddened by it? Absolutely.

Image-based reports are attractive to companies because they are quick, cheap to produce and perceived as a step up from PDF blobs. However, they are extremely cumbersome to use both online and offline as they cannot meet many basic usability requirements of investors. Companies should stop using image-based reports and vendors should stop selling them, especially because there are better options available that cost the same and can be produced in the same amount of time.

I wouldn't necessarily predict this would be a trigger, but I wouldn't rule it out either. It wouldn't surprise me if you see money leaving the secondary mortgage market, leading housing prices to fall.

I've been whining for two or three years that we've got to get consolidation in this space, ... In the bubble you had way too many companies go public. All these companies turned out to be features and not companies. Now part of the driver is a realization by the big companies that this is a way to capture growth.
