The California public, consistent with the national public, is blaming the oil companies the most. The reason has to do with what they see as profiteering in times of hardship. When prices run up, the oil companies make more money. They're already having record profits. The public doesn't like that situation. Public-sector companies cannot be treated as government departments. Companies are expected to make profits, departments are not.

We know oil companies are pocketing record profits. We believe it would be prudent for oil companies to take their record profits and use them to invest in alternative sources of energy.

As with any country, we have the right to manage our own resources. This doesn't mean expelling foreign companies or expropriating foreign property. Foreign companies have every right to recover investments and make profits, but profits should be balanced.

The government is allowing DuPont and other companies to use the American public as guinea pigs by relying solely on voluntary compliance by DuPont which has repeatedly violated the public's trust. This is an example of putting corporate profits ahead of human life.

Ultimately, this is a national issue that demands the full attention of the President and Congress, ... You just cannot justify giving away $7 billion in tax dollars to oil companies recording the largest profits ever in corporate history.

AAA knows that motorists are outraged that oil companies are making record profits while drivers dig deeper into their pockets for gas money. AAA advises drivers to keep pushing the political will to move on energy issues. The voice of motorists can make a difference. Nobody wants to see record high gas prices this summer.
