We often see this sort of short covering in a record-setting bull market ahead of a weekend, since nobody is sure where we may be Monday. But he kind of looks up and says, 'Turn here.' Then, 'Turn here.' He had us make about five turns. Now, by this time, I thought Ron was just full of B.S., that he couldn't possibly know where we were going. We were on little, two-lane, unmarked roads. But then, on the next turn, we pull right up in front of Florida State's stadium. It was incredible.

One of the reasons we had the housing market surging ahead was because of the low cost of borrowing money. With mortgage interests rates going up there is some concern some people will be priced out of the market, which in turn will reduce demand for housing ... That leads to lower prices.

Today is a one-piece news day, and we'll have several such days ahead as the market focuses on the economy in the absence of any other major indicators until December. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on this rally because this market can still turn on a dime on any negative news. I think we'll be stuck in a trading range until then.

We could see a little bit of a relief bounce if the (economic) numbers are good. Also, today and Monday are the last days of the month, so it wouldn't surprise me if some funds throw a little bit of money at the market to boost some key names ahead of the 31st of October.

Investors tend to move ahead of what the Fed actually does. And so like in the bond market in 1994, it was already rallying in November of '94 ... (when) the last move didn't come until after the turn of the year. So investors do tend to anticipate and move ahead of the action.
