The realization now is that the economy really is starting to slow down. And we've had figures from certain industries that would indicate that. And so therefore, investors are trying to put their money where gains in growth and earnings will take place, even in a slower economy. The areas that I think have been benefiting, and I think will continue to benefit, are the financial and health care sectors because that has been a traditional growth area. But not at the percentage gains that some of the technology companies have experienced.

Investors tend to move ahead of what the Fed actually does. And so like in the bond market in 1994, it was already rallying in November of '94 ... (when) the last move didn't come until after the turn of the year. So investors do tend to anticipate and move ahead of the action.

it's a company that`s remaking itself. It had been in the CD-ROM business and it's two years ahead of its competition in developing storage devices.

I would like to say that I see the market broadening, ... But I really don't. People have been talking about the Russell 2000, because that has been performing so well. It's 2000 of the smallest stocks. Now, the problem is though that most of the gains have been in the health care area, which are the biotech stocks. And that's up over 50 percent since the end of the year. And the other area is the technology area, which has been up substantially. And that's what's been lifting that particular index.

At this point in time,

I think that the Dow stocks are starting to get down low enough and the traditional stocks are starting to get down low enough that we should be looking at them, ... Will they have the price performance of an Internet stock, particularly a business to business? I have to question [that assumption]. But there is value there and it`s being overlooked in the marketplace.

That's based on the fact that we seem to have set a volume peak in January and a breadth peak in February,

The fact that we were only down 20 points after the inordinate gain yesterday was pretty impressive.

We went through this whole process in late May and we had a 7 percent correction. We regained almost the whole amount that we lost, and now with these numbers, investors are right back in the same mind set that they were at the end of May.

Over the past 50 years, the average gain in the stock market has been roughly 16 percent a year. That, considering where we closed at the end of 1995, would put us just under 6,000. Those are big numbers, but on a percentage basis they're within the scope of a bull market.

The advantage is that the study of the markets removes emotion from the decision, ... It is just a pure study of what's taking place.

Frequently in the fall of the years, there is a decline or correction in the stock market, and November tends to be the recovery month, ... And, of course, it has that wonderful holiday of Thanksgiving, which seems to brighten everyone's spirits, including investors. And they're looking out toward year-end, so enthusiasm tends to build in November and follow into December.

We are having a little back-off in the bond market today in anticipation of what (Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan) might say. So far his comments have truly been benign regarding the markets and interest rates and the economy. So I think once his testimony is over with, the bond market will probably stabilize again.

Eventually, the pieces will come together, there will be a decisive trend, and the market will advance,
