We're doing the official county road map and this is the second phase. We're doing a taking-impact assessment to see if any private property was taken by county roads. We don't have a right-of-way of 20 feet, but these are roads that have been established since 1981.

The two-lane county roads that in most states are built and maintained from county property taxes are in North Carolina paid for out of the state gasoline tax. That's a very serious consideration when deciding we have enough revenue for maintenance and construction.

The people we have in charge of the (county's) Road and Bridge Department are doing an outstanding job. America's just been slow at catching on. Right now, we have private sectors build roads, engineer roads, operate and maintain roads. What a P3 concession does is add the finance component.

We just think the proposal makes no sense from any perspective ? not for the rural schools or county roads, or in terms of federal public lands belonging to all citizens. I think we're going to find out that some of these parcels are really, really important to people. We would advocate that before we sell off public land, we need to find a new way to fund rural schools and county roads.

Roads must be built here in Manatee County. To give $100 to make you look good politically, when people here are dying on roads, it doesn't make sense.

It's going to affect everybody in the county. No matter where you live (in Florence County), you still gotta have decent roads.

Most commonly, in terms of relationship between the county and the city, you'll see the charter delegates power to the county to set minimal standards in a limited number of policy areas, like environmental protection, that the cities could not opt out of … adult entertainment, setting a level of service standards on county roads.

I am very honored and appreciate the support from everyone in my precinct. The No. 1 issue I heard on the campaign trail was county roads. There's nothing I can do yet, but as soon as I'm sworn in I plan to meet with the county engineer and others to see what can be done.

We have some of the busiest roads in the county and one of the biggest daily population of non-residents because the county courts is in our midst but we don't see enough Nassau cops policing the village.
