It wouldn't have been a bad year if prices hadn't improved. They were realizing 3-4 cents a pound improvement in costs each quarter. So unlike other aluminum companies, they can keep the spread widening whether price goes up or not.

Leg quarter prices have fallen from a record level of 50 cents a pound last fall to 29 cents a pound today and still seem to be falling. We believe at least some of this is due to consumer concern in the export markets regarding avian influenza.

The downgrade reflects our concerns about Wolverine's exposure to rapidly rising copper prices, which have risen by about 50 cents per pound since the end of the third quarter of 2005 and about 20 cents per pound in January 2006 alone. We expect that higher copper prices would result in a continued drain of Wolverine's liquidity and that Wolverine's credit metrics will remain very poor over the near term as the company continues to face high copper prices.

Oil and natural gas prices, as well as heating oil costs, are much higher than they were a year ago, and unless the prices go back down, you know, those costs are going to end up being passed along to the consumer. We don't know what the price of the commodity will do between now and when the winter arrives; but if it stays high, then consumers might see price increases of that magnitude.

The deterioration we did see was in energy prices; if you take out energy prices, things improved a bit. The bad news is that September import price data guarantees that we'll have a widening deficit in September.

Cutting costs, this is what the companies have to adapt to in the future. They have to be able to cut costs because paper prices can't be raised so much that results could be improved purely through that.

It's the metal price that's clearly driving it. To some extent, costs are better, but metal prices are the game for an aluminum company.

The spread has been widening since the beginning of September in favor of the pound. We have seen a stronger sterling against the euro.

Most of the aluminum companies will be flat to slightly up in the third quarter versus a year ago, although there will be one or two that will be up 50 percent.

This may be the year of the 'quarter per quarter' gasoline market. Don't be surprised to see pump prices go up at least 25 cents a gallon in each of the first three quarters. It won't take a calamity to create havoc; it's built right into the infrastructure.

Prices on several of our key products have started to move up in the U.S. and some of our major Asian markets are beginning to recover from the economic problems of last year, ... Overall, business has clearly improved, and we are optimistic that the price increases we announced will be fully implemented during the second quarter.

Although operating earnings for both the fourth quarter and the full year 2005 have improved significantly despite an increase in system fuel price of over 40 percent, we know we can do better. We will continue to contain costs, apply sound revenue management and deliver consistent service to our customers.

It's been the fuel costs that have hurt farmers more than anything. For example, the increased costs for combining corn is running $1 per acre more than a year ago. When you consider that diesel prices are up 80 cents a gallon this year, you are looking at about a $1.60 per acre increase up to 1,000 acres sometimes. There has been as much as $1,000 increase, just on fuel over the last year,

We are unlikely to cover enough costs to fully offset recent input price increases, particularly higher energy prices. We could experience some deterioration in underlying earnings per share in the second quarter relative to the first quarter.
