It seems absolutely ridiculous to me that a campaign has trouble identifying who their big givers are. Ten-thousand-dollar contributions don't go unnoticed.

No. Absolutely not. This is absolutely ridiculous. This is nothing but a desperate ploy by Mayor Sulzer to take attention away from a floundering campaign.

Congress has no incentive to rein in pork, because pork helps lawmakers get campaign contributions and get re-elected. It is entirely predictable that Congress would create the illusion of reform while retaining the system that allows them to sell government grants for campaign contributions.

It's absolutely ridiculous. The radio ads have to do with a legislative issue. They have nothing to do with a campaign issue.

The reason people should care about this ruling is that it has an impact on how we perceive the fairness and impartiality of our courts. Our research study from last year shows that while most voters have a fairly positive opinion about our judges, 86 percent of voters are concerned that large campaign contributions to judges can too often lead to conflicts of interest. Ninety-four percent, an overwhelming number, think that campaign contributions made to elected officials have an influence over their decisions. Fifty-seven percent think these contributions have a great deal of influence.

It's the right thing to do — we had corporate contributions, employee contributions, we donated a couple of thousand boxes, so when they called and asked for help it was an easy decision. I was thrilled that they asked us.
